CONSCIOUSLY CENSORING

CONSCIOUSLY CENSORING

illo_nsfw.png

Lately I’ve been constantly monitoring the cursing in my life. For some reason I’ve been feeling like its time to lay off on the cursing and I’ve been actively trying to handle it. I don’t know why I chose to pursue this, is it faith reasons? Is It simple maturity? Could be those things and some other things all I know is all the cursing isn’t necessary.

I remember starting cursing consistently in the 4th grade, I would curse so much in school it was ridiculous and that trended upwards as I got older. Now I think I should know how to communicate better without foul things leaving my mouth every two seconds.

But you know cursing in my life and cursing in the arts are two separate things to me. I hate hearing censored versions of music, especially rap. Clean versions of rap songs sound so stupid. Think I’m Lying? Go Listen to the clean version of “WAP” and see how dumb it sounds.

I just feel like clean versions of music messes with the artist’s intention and expression. An artist has to be allowed to express themselves fully so you can really feel and connect with their music. Matter fact clean versions are such a hinderance that for the classic Dr. Dre song, Xxplosive, its a whole verse that doesn’t even get played on the radio! If you remember it skipped straight to Nate Dogg’s verse, his verse was the best part of the song fasure but you needed that first verse from Kurupt to set Nate up for the kill.

Even in my life, I’m hard on censoring myself in real life but in my music I still let free with the curse words. I probably should ease up there too because of my Christian faith but, man its just a couple bars in my raps really need a f*** or a s*** there to get my point across.

All in all this is NOT an overnight journey and the day may never come when I completely don’t curse. But to be at peace with myself, its going to be something I continuously work on. #love

WE MUST BE CONSCIOUS OF WHAT WE MAKE COOL

WE MUST BE CONSCIOUS OF WHAT WE MAKE COOL

Its no secret that hip hop is the most influential genre/culture in the world. It impacts every aspect of living from fashion to the automobile industry and everything in between. I was watching the video for Jeezy’s “Almighty Black Dollar ft Rick Ross” and he had some bars slamming non-black owned lyrics. After seeing that it made me think about the connection of alcohol and hip hop and what made certain spirits so cool.

I. I’LL BE DAMNED IF I DRINK BELVEDERE WHILE PUFF GOT CÎROC

hov cristal.png

HOV said these lyrics from the standout track “Family Feud” from the 2017 release “4:44”. Its crazy to see Hov get to this point, if you know the history with him and the world of spirits. During the earlier days of his career, you could hear and see a constant unofficial endorsement of Cristal. It was Cristal this Cristal that, until the owner of Cristal said some disparaging racist remarks. After that HOV made a declaration to not support Cristal again.

Other people followed suit yet you still see some artists drink Cristal…to this day. The question is why? Especially if most of them is privy to the racist remarks made.

II. ARTISTS HAVE TO LIVE OUT WHAT THEY LOOKED UP TO

As I stated earlier, hip hop is the most influential thing in the world. So of course the influence permeates in upcoming hip hop acts. From the Lyrics to the Image, part of an artist come up is being to live out things they saw growing up. So it made me realized the new artists are gonna live out what they aspired to at least once.

The first thing I thought about was lyrics by local Detroit cult classic rap group, Doughboyz Cashout. Its no secret they were inspired by the even more classic rap group, Streetlordz and the streetlordz had hella lyrics referencing Cristal so its no surprise that DBC would pop up in their videos with Cristal as well.

rocky cristal.jpg

To Bring it to a more national level, I even remember when Rocky first came out in 2011, I was seeing him in his video with Cristal and it was clear he had an extreme 90s influence on his music.

You can’t fault artists for promoting the Cristal image because it was associated with legendary moments in life. However once those moments are felt you do notice the artists quickly abandon that aspiration they had and move on to something different. You don’t see Rocky or DBC talking about no damn Cristal anymore. Its just don’t hit as hard once you already did it.

III. WHY WE MUST BE CONSCIOUS

A person can’t get over something they put on a pedestal until they experience what they put on a pedestal and realize that its not as hype as they thought it was. We have to be conscious of what we make cool from the beginning so we won’t start a cycle of b.s. Older experienced+respected street dudes can tell the youngins the streets isn’t worth it, but the youngins still want to have their own experiences and its hard to listen when the OG made the street life seems so appealing and worth the risk.

So if we start in the beginning to be conscious of what we elevate in the culture we can alleviate the dumb stuff at a much rapid rate and we can focus on elevating instead of waiting each generation to grow up and then proceed with the growth.

SOMETIMES YOU JUST GOTTA PULL UP

SOMETIMES YOU JUST GOTTA PULL UP

barber.jpg

One Day I was planning to get my bi-weekly haircut and I went to text my barber. (If you know you know I usually go with a female barber, but due to the pandemic she refuse to cut, but this barber still crispy).

My barber don’t usually respond quick but this was taking longer as usual and I was like “Dang I need this cut at this time because I’m not trying to wait a million years for clippers to grace my skull”.

Even though he ain’t respond I still pulled up to the shop at the time I scheduled and was able to get cut at that time, that made me realized “sometimes you just gotta pull up”.

Pulling up in life is simply being direct, going straight to it. Sometimes in life you try to make all these plans and provisions, while these are good. sometimes you just gotta go big and get straight to it.

If I would’ve relied on that text I would’ve been like “alr I’ll try again the next day” or I could’ve taken the non-response personal and been like “man I’m bout to go to somebody else” and just played myself out of cut.

Instead I decided to just go straight to it and show up like I originally planned on too. That’s how you gotta do in life, you got a plan, a little hitch go in your plan, you don’t get defensive or contemplate a zillion years, you stick to your guns and just go get it.

Gotta pull up on your goals or wait for the universe to respond and trust me the universe is not responding to you because you not even willing to go get it.

Whenever I speak with people going thru turbulent times, I always try to remind them do not make desperate decisions, even if it seems like there is no other option. Desperation leads to an impulsiveness that can be hard to rectify. Impulsive acts are often foolish choices that can have big blowbacks simply because we didn’t take time to think of things in the long run.

This made me think of the story of Esau and Jacob, the two sons of Abraham. Esau was entitled to Abraham’s blessing being that he was the first born. However, Esau was unaware about how much value his birthright had and his younger brother would soon take advantage of that.

One day after working in the fields, a hungry and fatigued Esau entered the home as Jacob was making a pot of stew. Stew that probably wasn’t that good, but would probably taste crazy delicious to a man who hasn’t ate a thing all day long. Especially back in those biblical days, man the heat probably hit so different and he was probably funky, he just needed a good meal and a bath lol.

Anyways, Jacob seized this moment (he was plotting on Esau’s birthright the whole time) and offered Esau the stew in exchange for Esau’s birthright. Esau made a foolish rationalization, declaring that a birthright will be worthless to a dead man so he swore off his birthright in exchange of food.

After learning he was tricked by his mother and Jacob ( go read the full story in Genesis and you’ll see how that came about), he tried to get his birthright back but to no avail.

Here’s a couple things that impulsiveness/desperation makes you do:

  1. REASONS THAT DON’T MAKE NO SENSE

In a desperate measure you start trying to convince yourself that the dumb decision you is about to make is a good one, you can usually tell its a foolish rationalization because it will involve extremities. I.E. Esau saying a birthright is no good to a dead man. I mean I guess that’s true but that boy wasn’t about to die, he was just hungry, yeah we all been at that point of what feels like starvation but like I always say, “it ain’t that deep.”

2. SHORT TERM EARN, LONG TERM BURN

Esau’s birthright had so much attach to it. It’s a literal blessing from God, you have a whole lineage covered in God’s divine grace. God’s grace covers a multitude of things in your life from health to wealth and everything in between. His birthright was long term gain, something he wouldn’t immediately feel the affects from but it was a sure thing if you let it play out.

But that food it was right there, in that very moment. You knew the instant effects of that food. You was hungry, bones aching, you been in that hot pre-historic sun, ain’t no nikes back then you probably in sandals made from wood, man you just wanna eat. You can smell that food and you can even taste it. But you can only eat that one time, once Esau eats that food and his stomach is quieted bet he came back to reality like, “this fool done stole my whole birthright, naw imma need that back on god”.

However, it’s no getting that back. Once you make a dumb in the moment decision its gonna take the Grace of God Almighty himself to help you bounce back and that was something Esau didn’t have.

FINAL WORDS

Your mind can play some tricky sometimes sick games in your head cues Geto Boys - Mind Playing Tricks on Me , but you have to remember that if I make this decision in haste its 90% chance this isn’t going to go as well as I think it is. Remember to never trade your “birthright” for “a single meal”, its just never worth it.

LEFTOVERS AND CAREERS

LEFTOVERS AND CAREERS

The other day I was heating up some fries from a restaurant the day before. They tasted disgusting and I wanted to launch them to the capital. I was mad because the day before they tasted so amazing, it was good when it was hot and now it can never reach that same taste again. Heating those fries made me think about artists and their careers, lets explore more.

Daniel Hernandez, aka, 6ix9ine.

Daniel Hernandez, aka, 6ix9ine.

I. HOT AS FRIES

If you don’t know who 6ix9ine is, its okay he wasn’t that important (no disrespect). However, one would be lying if I didn’t say he was scorching hot at one point. In 2017, Daniel Hernandez, better known as, Tekashi69 or 6ix9ine, took the music world by storm. His aggressive lyrics, one word song titles, and rainbow hair had New York and eventually the rest of the world on smash. In his music, 6ix9ine perpetrated images of gang culture which saturated his music and his lifestyle. He got involved with disputes with some of the most perceived toughest rappers and had ties with a lethal New York gang, all which made him a viral sensation and blew him up to pop success, even earning collaborations with megastars, Kanye West and Nicki Minaj.

But just as quick as he rose to fame, he came down even quicker. Inner turmoil with the gang he was affiliated with led him to a prison sentence and eventually “snitching” to save his tide and return to society. Before he came home everyone wondered would hip-hop listen to an openly known “snitch”? Could anyone take this guy seriously ever again for acting like something he was not?

He almost proved that people would listen to him regardless. He earned the #1 song again with Nicki Minaj and was able to break YouTube records again. However that stint didn’t last long as it seemed people only cared about this young man when he was doing theatrical antics for internet clout. However, seeing someone chasing clout get tiresome after a while and his album release proved it. His album, Tattletales, did make a strong number 4 debut on the Billboard charts but shortly after that it was a ghost silence. Even now at this present moment I don’t hear anything about the young man, its almost as if he fell of the face of the earth.

His post-prison release, Tattletales, which some considers a commercial flop.

His post-prison release, Tattletales, which some considers a commercial flop.

His career was like those fries from the restaurant, came in scorching hot but when it was time to heat things back up, it just didn’t hit the same.

II. THANKSGIVING LEFTOVERS

Jay-Z aging gracefully

Jay-Z aging gracefully

However, microwave food isn’t so bad. Take for instance thanksgiving leftovers. Yeah its not as hot and fresh as it was when it was first prepped but it still hit the next day. That’s how I think about someone like Jay-Z. Jay isn’t at his peak like he was during The Blueprint era but he always has music you can go back to and get something from. His album Vol 2. Hard Knock Life, its like a plate of macaroni and cheese you can never get enough of it. Just like when Thanksgiving is over the leftovers still slap, that’s how Jay music is. You can’t recapture the feeling when The Black Album drop but its always there, waiting for you to load it back up and its still gonna hit your soul like you want it to.

III. CONCLUSION

Artists should strive for longevity over everything, if they take the music business serious. If you only want a fleeting moment and you’d rather take all the accolades and limelight on the front end, maybe you’re just a side dish of fries, who won’t be good to anyone the next day.

But if you always want a special place in people’s heart, be something people can debate over all while being something that brings people together? Then you want to be a thanksgiving meal baby!

IS 3M THE BEST THING TO HAPPEN TO SNEAKERS?

Air Jordan XIII, reflective side panel, you know the vibes, real 98’ energy

Air Jordan V’s with the 3M reflective tongue

Air Jordan V’s with the 3M reflective tongue

Probably Not, but they are a super cool material, but I never knew why? All I can recall is people making a big fuss over any sneaker that had 3M on it. For those who don’t know, 3M is reflective fabric, that is typically used at night for safety workers. However, the sneaker world has made 3M be featured on some of the most classic sneakers ever.

If I can recall my first 3M encounter was with the Air Jordan XIII. Seeing that was probably way cooler to me because I was younger and then I saw it on the Air Jordan V I had in high school and it had me an awe. Again I do not know why its just literally cool.

I’m not the only one who shares this love for 3M, even Action Bronson talked about the importance of 3M in one of the latest episodes of COMPLEX’s SNEAKER SHOPPING. He talked about the reflective ‘N” on a New Balance sneaker. He specifically said, “When you taking pictures and you with a bunch of people and they don’t have the “N” thats reflective, you’re gonna stand out aka you’re beamin’ or you shinin’”. “If you’re running of course they’ll see you but if you’re taking pictures…wooooo.”

And with that said I think I finally found out why I love 3M on sneakers so much. It helps you stand out, plain and simple. Like Action Bronson said, “you’re beamin or shinin’”. Its nothing like “beamin’ or shinin”, that’s why we getting car washes, or buy jewelry, you get an extra glow when you’re shining and that’s exactly what 3M helps you do.

THE JELLY DONUT: UNWANTED SURPRISE

Everyone Loves Surprise Right?

Ewwww

Ewwww

Ok lets get it out the way. I HATE JELLY DONUTS. They’re disgusting and should never been in existence. You bite into it thinking its just a regular donut and then, BOOM, a splash of filthy jam sneaks in your mouth. (Yes I know that sentence needs a major pause). But Jelly Donuts isn’t the point of this article, the point of this article is what the Jelly Donut represents, an unwanted surprise.

I realized so much in why I hate the jelly donut is because the jelly is unexpected, you don’t see it coming. In Life, no one wants to get caught off guard. Think about being spooked or your total coming up to more than you expect, the jelly is the unwanted surprise in life that you could probably be do without.

People can be a jelly donut as well. They can have a spectacular exterior. They’re glazed, hot, just the right size, super fresh and as soon as you take a bite, you get hit with the worst surprise ever. You found they’ve been hiding children or just flat out lame, whatever they turn out to be, its not what YOU expected and that’s the problem!

So much like how I would like the donut I choose to consume to be consistent in appearances, I expect the same from the circumstances/people in my life. It makes one wonder, is that too much to ask for?

THEY SAID YOU COULDN’T FIND THIS IN THE BIBLE

THEY SAID YOU COULDN’T FIND THIS IN THE BIBLE

IMG_1013.jpg

Screen Shot 2020-10-31 at 8.38.37 PM.png

I was scrolling twitter one day, reading my timeline and I seen a tweet from one of my favorite accounts to follow. He alleges the law of attraction and the law of responsibility couldn’t be found in school or the bible.

This tweeter is a smart young man and very entertaining but I found the statement he said false, well only the part where he says it can’t be found in the Bible. He’s right school isn’t teaching you all that extra spiritual stuff, they don’t wanna see you win foreall anyways lol.

I. LAW OF ATTRACTION.

First, twitter user, Guns & Crayons said “law of attraction you visualize what you want- energy harvesting you get people behind your vision use their energy.”

According to Proverbs 23:7, “for as he thinketh in his heart, so is he..” Whatever you think and dwell on in your heart will manifest itself in your life. At this point, this is general knowledge to most people who have an ounce of spirituality but some are unaware of its biblical roots.

The other part to his law of attraction meaning states, “energy harvesting you get people behind your vision use their energy.” Growing up as a Christian, and a continuing practicing Christian, I was taught that blessings are always delivered through people. You can use this verse as a piece of evidence.

Screen Shot 2020-10-31 at 8.42.36 PM.png

Proverbs 15:22 says “plans fail when there is no counsel, but with abundant advisers they are established.” Abundant advisors are people getting behind your vision. When you listen to counsel you are effectively using their energy to help propel your plans forward.

II. LAW OF RESPONSIBILITY

Next, my mans said “law of responsibility — you show the universe you can handle it so it gives you more..” According to the word, we were always taught don’t despise small beginnings. Zechariah 4:10 says “Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see work begin, to see the plumb in Zerubbabel’s hand.”

This excerpt from biblehub.com , explains this perfectly. “4:10 For who hath despised - In the work of God, the day of small things is not to be despised. God often chuses weak instruments, to bring about mighty things: and tho' the beginnings be small, he can make the latter end greatly to increase. For - Tho' they undervalued the meanness of the second temple, yet when finished, they shall rejoice in it.

The plummet - The perpendicular with which Zerubbabel shall try the finished work. With those seven - In subordination to the Divine Providence expressed by the seven eyes, which were on that stone.

And those that have the plummet in their hand, must look up to these eyes of the Lord, must have a constant regard to the Divine Providence, and as in dependence upon its conduct, and submission to its disposals.”

Christians always turn to this verse to explain to people do not give up in the beginning and the beginning has a purpose. The Lord is always interested in developing our character. Plenty of people in the Bible started lowly and weren’t elevated quickly. David was destined to be king as a young man, but he wasn’t proclaimed as king till much later.

Arguably his greatest feat, defeating Goliath the Giant, couldn’t had happened without first saving the sheeps from the Lion. David protecting the sheep from the Lion, showed the God of the universe that he would be able to protect the Lord’s sheep (the actual people) from an opponent as fierce as a Lion (Goliath).

If David couldn’t protect the sheep, how would he be able to protect a whole group of people, that’s why he had to show he could handle his responsibility before he was giving more.

III. SEARCH THE WORD

In conclusion, I know people are off put by institutionalized religion. We know slavery used religion against us and hypocritical preachers are deterring people left and right. However, the wrongdoing of the people does not take away from the truth in the word. Before we claim, something is not in the Bible or we can’t learn from it, let us first search the word first before we make such claims.

This article is not an attack on Guns & Crayons, I just wanted to use his tweet as a teaching moment. Love.

PLAIN LANGUAGE: THE BRIDGE BETWEEN LAWYERS AND NON-LEGAL PROFESSIONALS

PLAIN LANGUAGE: THE BRIDGE BETWEEN LAWYERS AND NON-LEGAL PROFESSIONALS

DISCLAIMER: THIS IS NOT LEGAL ADVICE IN ANY SHAPE OR FORM AND SHOULD NOT BE TAKEN AS SUCH.

The disconnect between legal professionals and non-legal professionals seem more distant now than ever. There’s clauses for clauses, words the average person would never understand, and a bunch of mumbo jumbo in between you may think to yourself, “screw it I’ll sign this let’s just get this over already”.

The Beginning of One of Kanye’s Many Music Contracts

The Beginning of One of Kanye’s Many Music Contracts

However thinking back to Kanye’s tirade earlier this year about deceptive business practices in music contracts and even recently with Dave Chappelle’s situation with not wanting the Chappelle Show to be streamed anywhere(due to his lack of just compensation), maybe its just time to write contracts how we are actually speaking.

https://www.instagram.com/tv/CH-rR9znT3g/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link ( Dave Chappelle’s Unforgiven)

Thinking back to my drafting class in law school, our biggest assignment was to correct a lengthy contract and make it as plain/simple as possible. Let me be the first to tell you that was a real chore to do. If I had to see another “hereforth” “thereafter” or some other term we never say I was going to lose my wig. If I was feeling that as law student, with SOME understanding of the law, imagine a young guy/gal with NO LAWYER (or a very sleazy one) feel like.

Plain Language can operate as the much needed bridge between the legal world and those who operate outside of it. Legal Professionals think with a whole different brain than other people, some of the words I use with my non-legal friends, I know they say, “Harry what the heck are you talking about”. So Imagine an experienced Lawyer using their full arsenal of vocabulary in contract negotiations, it makes my head just thinking about it.

Even in my business practices, plain language has been at the core of my contracts, its as simple as “abc” and “xyz”. The question remains is why aren’t contracts reflecting plain language more often? Do Lawyers want to prove their extreme intelligence? Is it to hide deceptive practices in plain sight? Or is it a “this is how we’ve always done it” thing, so no one has the courage to break free from it?

Whatever the reason is, plain language need to be adapted, so each party can know exactly what is required from them in the deal and for absolute fairness to be ensured!

MAYBE GOKU SHOULD BEAT EVERY VILLAIN?

MAYBE GOKU SHOULD BEAT EVERY VILLAIN?

I emailed Shueisha after this, I don’t think i got a response lol .

I emailed Shueisha after this, I don’t think i got a response lol .

I’ve definitely been apart of that crowd that complains about Goku getting the win over the big bad, ALL THE TIME. In fact, I even wrote Shueisha about it lol. However, one day I was just reading about Dragonball and I thought you know what maybe Goku should get the win everytime. Here’s why:

I. LOW-CLASS SAIYAN

Besides the writing literally dictating who get the wins over the big bad, in a strictly narrative perspective, Goku isn’t the ideal person to win. In his race of people, he is considered a low class warrior. Low class warriors are sent off to distant planets and the planet he was sent to was Earth. Goku was never a prodigy or automatically strong. He worked and dedicated his life to training, he gets off on breaking his limits. In regards to that, if someone dedicates their life to being the best and shattering their limits, why shouldn’t they be able to defeat everyone they come across?

Yeah, we’ll like to see Vegeta (for those who don’t know, he’s a saiyan too and Goku’s rival) get some wins but besides the writing dictating he won’t win, there is also a reason why Vegeta doesn’t get the big wins.

II. WHY OTHER CHARACTERS CAN’T GET THE BIG WIN

Staring with the Prince of All Saiyans, Vegeta, he can’t get a win because the dude is too cocky for his own good. For the first big villain Frieza, he antagonized Frieza, and was begging him to transform. He repeatedly stressed he was a super saiyan, when he really wasn’t. He constantly pushed Frieza to become his strongest form unnecessarily because doing that Frieza embarrassed the young man to no return. Wait scratch embarrassing he actually killed him. He couldn’t beat Frieza because he simply wasn’t strong enough enough.

The next big Villain Cell, Vegeta cockiness once again destroyed his chances of beating a big bad. Enticed by the same thing with Frieza, he wanted to see Cell at his strongest. At this point Vegeta is far stronger than Cell, he essentially embarrasses him the same way Frieza once did him. Everyone around him begged him to finish the fight and save the Earth from a menace but what did he do? Allow his cockiness/pride to take over and allowed Cell to get full power. What happened next? An ass-kicking of a lifetime is what happened lol.

Vegeta simply can’t win because his arrogance will never allow him too! He can destroy minor villains due to his overwhelming dominance, but the big bad can always increase in strength that rivals his or surpasses him. Vegeta always want to fight people at their strongest so he’s always gonna get his ass kicked lol.

  1. GOHAN CAN’T WIN EITHER

I’m definitely the leader of “Make Gohan Great Again” he ‘s probably my favorite character but my guy hasn’t been getting the love he supposed to get. The only big bad victory he had was against Cell and ever since then fans were begging for Gohan to get the spotlight. Besides the writing dictating Gohan will not get the big win, the in-narrative explaination is, Gohan doesn’t like fighting!

In his fight against Cell, he explained he doesn’t seek the thrill of fighting like his father, Goku. His father and the other warriors live to fight. Gohan doesn’t live like that, he’s a scholar, not a warrior. However, what frustrates fans is that its been stated he has the most potential out of everyone but we never seen him to be the strongest for long. Luckily he defeated Cell but besides Gohan lack of love for fighting, Gohan won’t defeat a main villain because he gets drunk off his own power.

Gohan getting taught by Piccolo to stop getting drunk off power.

When he surpassed Cell, Goku urged Gohan to finish Cell but Gohan wanted to see Cell suffer more. He knew Cell could not touch him but he wanted to drag it on and on due to his punch drunk power. The same happened with Buu, the next big bad.

This time Gohan was once again the strongest due to his potential being unlocked by the Elder Kai. However, Gohan took his time with Buu, once again getting drunk off his power, wanting to see Buu suffer for his crimes against humanity. Gohan derailing the objective for justice caused him to get absorbed by Buu and Goku had to save the day once again.

II. GOKU REALLY DOESN’T WIN ALL THE TIME

In the Dragonball Super series Goku doesn’t actually get a win. Our perception as fans is that Goku always get the win but this statement is really factually untrue. The first big bad, Beerus, overpowered everyone including Goku. Even with Goku achieving a new form, Super Saiyan God, it wasn’t enough to defeat Beerus. Luckily for them Beerus decides to spare them because of Earth’s delicious treats (we do have great food lol).

In the Tournament between Universe 6 & 7, it was obvious that Goku & Vegeta should win. Did that happened? Nope! In fact Goku was eliminated twice! Once by illegal use of poison by his opponent, so he was allowed to re-enter then he forfeited a fight because the opponent couldn’t fight at his fullest without killing.

Goku didn’t defeat the next big bad, Zamasu. In fact, that fight went so left a whole universe/timeline had to be wiped out of existence just to defeat Zamasu, you’ll have to watch it for yourself if you don’t know the full story behind that.

In the next big tournament. the Tournament of Power, Goku didn’t win that either, he eliminated plenty of opponents, but he sacrificed himself to eliminate the strongest person in the tournament, thus leaving victory to Android 17.

III. GOKU LIVES AND BREATHES FIGHTING

All Forms of Goku, Drawn by Legendary Animator, Shintani!

All Forms of Goku, Drawn by Legendary Animator, Shintani!

Maybe Goku should win because he literally eats and breathes fighting. He’s barely home with his family, he put everyone at risk, just for the chance to fight the strongest the universe has to offer, If someone has that much passion then maybe he deserves to win everything.

AN UN-DRIVEABLE BENZ

AN UN-DRIVEABLE BENZ

One particular day I was getting my haircut and during the cut I was facing the window. Across the street was an autobody shop that had a couple cars out front and in the midst of those cars I noticed a benz. I said “man that Benz hard but it can’t even go nowhere.” That’s when it hit me, a lot of things in life can be like an un-driveable benz.

344x258.jpeg

The Benz out front looked like nothing was wrong with it. It didn’t look too old, it still had a nice platinum finish, and at the end of the day it’s a benz for Christ sake! lol. However, no matter how good it looked I knew it was being wasted if its sitting out front not functioning.

An un-driveable benz can be like a seemingly healthy exterior(Slim, Nice Skin, etc.) but the insides are in peril. I’ll never forget a conversation I had with my cousin. We were at my aunty apartment and we just finished swimming. I don’t know what triggered it but I said to him “cuz just because you’re skinny don’t mean you’re healthy”.

That conversation always creeps me out because my cousin ended up passing several years later and he was skinny & tall, you would think he was a perfectly healthy kid(he played basketball and everything). But what outsiders wouldn’t be able to tell is that he had a vicious battle with asthma.

Being in shape or just appearing fine is nothing if you’re not actually fine. A new KIA is automatically better than a Benz, if the Benz doesn’t even operate. So to put this thought to an end, think about the classic phrase “its whats on the inside that counts” and continue forward from there!

ONE THING EVERY RESTAURANT NEED TO KNOW

ONE THING VERY RESTAURANT NEED TO KNOW

After all these years of eating out there is a concept most restaurants have yet to grasp. It is a simple concept yet many fail to do it and when they do implement it, they act like its a pain to do so.

What is it you may ask? I’m telling you its really simple….ok here it is…

EVERY RESTAURANT SHOULD KNOW BY NOW THAT WE NEED NAPKINS!!!!!!

I cannot stress this enough, the most annoying thing is, it be the messiest food that you never get any napkins for. Fam, I have barbecue chicken wings, how do you expect me to eat without any barbecue sauce getting on my hand. You want me to just toss it in the air and rip it to shreds?

Please don’t get me started on ice cream places. My guy its the middle of the summer, I’m eating this outside and you just wanna give me a cone or a cup and tell me good luck. My dude if you don’t run those napkins before I run into your establishment and buss everybody head lol.

Come on you know I need napkins for these

Come on you know I need napkins for these

Anyways, its just utterly ridiculous that many food spots haven’t caught on to this notion yet. To the ones that have, you know we appreciate you. To the ones that haven’t please get it together, it only take two seconds and you can win a customer for life for doing the most simple humane thing, give people their napkins!!

Smh so good but don’t ruin my outfit beloved, give me a napkin!

GO UP

GO UP

originally written July 19, 2020

During bar prep I would wake up everyday and go study at my desk in my new office chair. I never paid no mind to the position I was in, I was sitting down as usual. Until one day I decided to raise my chair up to help better position my arms on the desk.

I never knew how much I needed that. Raising my chair up had my back feeling better, I could see my workspace better, and overall it had me thinking better.

This change made me realized sometimes we can be so used to being down. We often accept things as they are with no conscious effort to change it, much like how I accepted the positioning of my seat everyday.

Someday something must awaken in you that goes “I need to raise Up” and raising up will allow to see, think, and feel with a much better perspective. You can feel low in your work, relationship, business, but making that conscious decision to “GO UP” is the right fuel to get the engine going.

CARRIED BY YOUR WORKS

CARRIED BY YOUR WORKS

I.  BUILD A CATALOG

Creating a lasting legacy should be at the top of everyone’s mind. No matter the field you are in, consistency and persistency will always help you reach your goal. The key to keeping your work is alive is by building a catalog.

If you do music, you can’t drop one song a year and expect to be Drake. (Don’t tell yourself the quality over quantity lie, something I touched on in a previous article, go find it beloved).

You have to add to your repertoire daily and give people a sort of never ending stream of your works. Let’s take a look at a few examples

II. PASTOR STEPHEN DARBY

Pastor Stephen Darby was a pastor out of Louisville, KY, who gained a lot of traction online for his prophetic and convicting messages. Truly his messages are life changing, they deeply pierces the soul. Unfortunately Pastor Darby, suddenly passed away and just like that there weren’t any new messages to look forward to, no new spiritual food to feast on.

However, Pastor Darby has so many videos already put up online, it’s almost as if he didn’t go anywhere, there is always a video to watch and his videos are so deep, you can rewatch the same videos and still receive something new from it.

Pastor Darby had the foresight to record and build up his works, now when a person discovers him, they may be upset that he died but they can always feel connected to him and his ministry because he did what he was supposed to do and built a catalog.

III. MY ARTWORK

The art game is a whole different beast. Playing this game takes time, effort, and a bit of money. Where people fail is at the time and effort, just like how making one song a year gets you nowhere so does making one piece a year or very seldom making pieces. Being inconsistent is absolute poison to your art career.

However, let’s explore how did the opposite of that.

A. BACK IN THE RHYTHM

Believe it or not, during my undergraduate years at UAPB (wooooooo) I did not spend much time drawing. Matter fact the only time I remember drawing is my freshmen year and the time I’m going to tell you about now.

In my senior year, I had to do summer school to finish my last semester timely, I refused to come back for the fall, I wanted out of there!!

To keep myself occupied during those dog days of the summer I started back sketching in my mini sketchbook. I rebranded my art page from (JHarryartcorner) to (the__corner) and I started uploaded sketches frequently, finding myself back in love with drawing.

B. 2016

2016, was the year I put the battery in my pack not to let up. It was the year I finally got to go to New York for the first time. This was a frustrating period because I graduated college with no opportunity, I lost my great paying job to go take a test to graduate and when I got back it was hell getting into the marketplace.

Literally applied to over a 1,000 jobs (no cap, I really mean over a thousand!!!) before I got back to it but that’s another story.

Anyways, I got to New York and it was a breath of fresh air, exactly what I needed. Everyday there I drew new pictures, constantly adding to the lore of the__corner.  It was even times I had to choose between eating or getting new markers, of course I chose the markers!!

Even after my return from New York, I was able to continue my consistency into drawing, and I am still carried by those 2016 works today.

C. TYING IT ALL TOGETHER

Recently I started an archive page where I post daily, yes daily, previous works that I’ve done over the year. I’ve put in so much work I can flood the TL at any time. Even before my consistent 2016 year, I’ve been drawing all my life so I can post those as well.

It’s crazy some of those works are just getting the recognition they deserved. Even pics I did from two years ago are receiving the recognition like it just came out today. Products that I created in 2017, sitting on the floor of my apartment are now some of my highest grossing items.

D. PUTTING THAT WORK IN

First of all it is because of Christ I am able to flourish in any of this. In addition to that, this is what happens when you consistently put that work in. You can be carried by your work! You won’t even have to make new stuff if you don’t want, when you built up your catalog enough, (why do you think your music publishing and stuff like that is so important but thats another story).

So go out there and put in the work, so you too may be carried by your work!

THE HOLD OUT

THE HOLD OUT

Not too long ago I was thinking about the concept of “holding out”. Its kinda crazy you can receive everything you want by refusing to give a person what they want, UNTIL, you get what you want (did that make you head hurt yet?).

My Boy getting it in during quarantine, don’t worry after Bron get this chip, it’ll be your time!

My Boy getting it in during quarantine, don’t worry after Bron get this chip, it’ll be your time!

This thought was sparked when I was listen to an episode of Flagrant 2, a comedic sports podcast that push the envelope so far the seal should be nonexistent.

A point was made by the lead host, Andrew Schulz, that the NBA players should refuse to resume the NBA season until the NBA gives everything the players demands. He went on to say with all the progress and attention being made for social injustice towards black people, why not squeeze the rag dry?

The Tactic of holding out only works when the person holding out is valued more than the other person.

NBA players probably aren’t holding out because the season has already been set to resume and so far from what I’ve seen the player who chose to opt-out did so for safety precautions, not for revolutionary movements.

NBA players COULD hold out because what is the NBA without its players. What is Adam Silver going to be Zion all of a sudden? I don’t think so beloved. So the ball would be in the players court (no pun intended) and they could hold Adam Silver and the owners hostage until the changes they want to see in the NBA are made.

You can also relate this concept to when a girl holds out on sexual relations with a guy. Usually it’s a guy pressed to take things to the next level and he’s willing to meet any demands, if it finally means a night in paradise.

In this case the woman is more valued and depending on the type of woman she is she can get him to hop through rings of fire just for a sniff.

Holding Out captured perfectly in film lol

Holding Out captured perfectly in film lol

Most times a woman may use a hold out to ensure commitment, unfortunately holding out doesn’t guarantee commitment. If you’re dealing with a guy with options and he choose to exercise those options, you as the woman will look foolish in the end.

So as with anything you have to be cautious with the hold out tactic because you hold out too long, you will be replaced whether its on the court or it’s someone being courted.

HOPE, WISDOM, AND EVERYTHING THAT COULD WRONG.

HOPE, WISDOM, AND EVERYTHING THAT COULD WRONG.

One of my favorite activities is reading my bible. Not only is it always an enjoyable read but its absolutely key to my survival.

There are some books of the Bible that seem to be more prevalent for me in my life at the moment. I also find it crazy how these three impactful books runs back-to-back-to-back.

I. HOPE

I like to look at Psalms as the book of hope. Someone may have pointed you towards Psalms to read verses about your healing, protection, and drawing closer to good in general. Here’s some key examples.

II. WISDOM

Now the book of Proverbs is my absolutely favorite book of the Bible. Proverbs is known as the book of wisdom, rightfully so, as it features writings from the wisest person in history (Solomon). If I don’t live by anything else in this book (which I definitely do), I live by passages in here. Here’s some key examples.

III….AND EVERYTHING THAT COULD BE WRONG

This last book, the book of Ecclesiastes (say that three times fast), is kind of a Debbie downer, but its absolutely necessary. In sum it basically tells us that everything we pursue in life is ultimately meaningless as nothing compares to living for God.

In addition to the fact that we can’t take any material possessions, this book basically asks, “whats the point of it all”? This thought process makes sense as this book was once again written by Solomon, the wisest man in history.

Solomon was essentially a man who had it all and he’s seen the highest of highs and reached the lowest of lows. From money problems to family problems to women problems you named it, he really seen it all like his name was Solomon Jeezy or something. Anyways, here’s some key examples.

LOOK MAN, THEY’RE TRYING: SPORTS AND ENTERTAINMENT IN A PANDEMIC

LOOK MAN, THEY’RE TRYING: SPORTS AND ENTERTAINMENT IN A PANDEMIC

This quarantine have been a difficult and trying time for everyone. Unemployment is at an all time high and public morale is at an all time low.

With one of the world’s most beloved past times essentially non-existent, what is the world to do? Of course I am talking about sports. COVID-19 have left the basketball season in suspense and left this year’s olympics erased from history.

It poses the question, how do people who spend their livelihoods talking about Sports continue to thrive when there are no sports?

I love Chauncey but man they’re pulling stats out their ass! lmao.

I love Chauncey but man they’re pulling stats out their ass! lmao.

NO MORE HYPOTHETICALS !! LOL.

NO MORE HYPOTHETICALS !! LOL.

The sights have been kinda crazy to see. Have you seen ESPN’s instaposts? They’re literally coming up with anything! However, it made me think man at least they’re trying. They’re trying to deliver content to their audience, fulfill contractual obligations, doing everything that come with running a media conglomerate in the midst of the pandemic.

Iconic scene of mike swinging that bat, I want a bat too Mike, I want a bat too…

The saving grace for sports has indeed been ESPN’s The Last Dance informally known as the “Jordan Doc”. A sports documentary that chronicles Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls, last championship run.

This excellent documentary helped reignite Jordan’s legacy as PLAYER and gave sports content driven companies legitimate content  for the next five weeks or so.

With the NBA set to return at the end of July, it makes me wonder will the sports world finally have something to look forward to or we will keep creating impossible hypotheticals?

Anyone who’s been affected by this virus (in reality all of us has), have to come up with a ways to keep the job going even when it’s seemingly no job.

Musicians must utilize livestream features to substitute the lack of concerts, visual artists must use their creative wit to get people to spend money they might not have. It is a trying time for everyone and people can’t be judged for at least trying to ease the blow even if its only a little.
