GRISELDA IS NEEDED FOR ONE SIMPLE REASON

GRISELDA IS NEEDED FOR ONE SIMPLE REASON

February 3, 2022

A. THEY MAKE EVERYONE WANNA RAP!!

That’s it beloved!! It was only a matter of time before I wrote about them Buffalo Boys. I can’t exactly recall when I get wind of the Griselda Empire but if I had to put a finger on it, it was probably during the Tana Talk 3 release era and I know the JBP (The Joe Budden Podcast) had a huge reason on why I came across them.

CONWAY THE MACHINE

WESTSIDE GUNN

I love Griselda because they circumvent all the bs that comes with rap and just stick with rapping!! Which is very rare in the music business. Griselda at its core is the 3 Man team of Westside Gunn, Conway the Machine, and Benny the Butcher. Conway is considered the most lyrical but Benny gets that title from a certain people too! Me personally I flip flop between who’s the most lyrical adept between the two but it don’t even matter!

Westside is known more as a curator than a rapper but he gets off too! He’s excellent at putting projects together and bridging the gap between the arts and the streets. Westside Gunn is definitely a person I would hang around because he’s immersed in the culture. We all know street people and a lot of us come from the hood but street stuff can be overbearing with people constantly trying to prove their “streetness” and just operating on a low frequency in general.

Griselda is street at its core but man they so different. its not low vibrations. When them boys rap they spit with that hunger and its sound like they care man, that’s so important! Everybody wanna eat but with how easier it is to get a quick lick in music a lot of people hop in the booth and say bs, not these boys, they on that Jadakiss vibe, EVERY VERSE MATTERS!!

At this point to say you don’t like Griselda is saying you don’t like hip hop! And if you don’t like hip hop kick rocks!! lmao. Man every time I listen to these boys I wanna open up Logic and press record! If I’m feeling like that any lyricist that cares HAS to feel like that! With that being said, for those who don’t know let me drop my favorite tracks below for yall to go purchase and stream! I’ll do ten off the top of my head, check it out:

WHY DOES WATER PUT OUT FIRE?!

WHY DOES WATER PUT OUT FIRE?!

One day I was running water over the sink to put out some sage that was burning too vicious lol, (yeah burning sage to destroy them bad vibes beloved you know what it is), as I was running water I thought “Why does water put out fire?!” I don’t know the scientific answer to this but I felt like a deeper meaning was given to me in my head that day. Or maybe it wasn’t that deep and I’m boosting but who cares beloved. I thought about a certain point regarding this subject.

I. COOL HEAD BEATS A HOT HEAD.

Before I start, I recognize water can be. hot, that does defuse the following point just stay along for the ride, ok?! When I saw the water hit the sage it was somehow amazing for me just to see a fire that was burning so fiercely be decimated by water. It made me think this is what happens when we decide to let our cool thoughts take over our raging hot emotions.

When we are calm and cool we can make extremely better decisions. Whenever I had a burning rage it always led down the wrong path. Rage has gotten me into physicals fights, verbal onslaughts, and accidental injury to myself. You’re so consumed with the fire of your emotions you’re going every direction almost like a… flame. There isn’t a linear direction fire can go unless its projected thru a flamethrower or something similar so it can just go anywhere. Its akin to rage, I remember times being so mad I couldn’t stay still I had to do something: scream, punch a wall, punch a face, anything that would transmute my anger to a physical expression.

But when I decide to cool it I avoided a lot of tragic endings. Even the Bible says “Remember this, my dear brothers: Let everyone be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry.”

PERCEPTION CHANGES

PERCEPTION CHANGES

January 30, 2022

One day I was listening to The Boy, (Drizzy Drake), I believe it was No Friends in the Industry, and I was like wow its crazy how menacing Drake sounds now. I remember when he was the bud of soft jokes, he may get those jokes still but its nowhere near how it was pre Nothing Was the Same. It had me thinking like man perception really changes.

Perception can be defined as “ a way of regarding, understanding, or interpreting something; a mental impression “. I vividly recall Drake’s original reception among rap fans. He was the loverboy way before CLB, but thats it, He was the guy who rapped extremely well but he was just a “soft guy” in his feelings. I never felt Drake was soft, if that’s the case everybody whoever made a R&B song is soft. People was letting his R&B side define him because that was extremely popular with women. So if you cater to women somehow you'‘re “soft”.

Anyways…

I believe perception started to changed for Drake starting with his 2015 release “If You’re Reading This Its Too Late”. Some may regard it as his best album and if it isn’t its definitely his most controversial release. As we all know, Drizzy’s pen was brought into question when Meek Mill exposed via twitter that Quentin Miller was the ghostwriter behind the most coveted singles on the project. Hip Hop purists were left flabbergasted, “oh no the boy didn’t write his raps for this album”, “how long has this going on???”, “is his 6pack even real"???!!”, by the way no one said that but pillars in the hip hop community were disappointed in the news. However, the real Drake fans did not give a single damn that he had help with his hits. We heard the demos, we were elated Quentin did not release the records as the main recording artist.

As most can recall when Meek called out Drake many thought it was the end of Aubrey Graham as we know it, and if this was to go into an audio world war, Meek and boisterous voice would surely come out the victor. What’s so ironic is, back in 2013 during our college days me and my roommates had a hypothetical argument about who would win in a battle, Drake or Meek Mill?

Me and one of my roommates instantly said Drake. My other roommate said Meek without a second thought and his reasoning was the same as any other rap fan, “Meek was a battle rapper this is what he do!!”. That mattered to me none beloved, I knew Drake is a perpetual student of the game and I recalled some spats he had during the Comeback Season era. I knew he would be more than ready but the world didn’t.

So Drake released Back to Back after the warning shot Charged Up and from this moment he began to look like the big bad wolf to me. Check it out, he drops Summer Sixteen which was basically a taunt for the first half of the song. Then he makes songs like Free Smoke, talking reckless saying anyone can get it. He gets so deep in his aggressive Drake rap bag people started rumors that he had XXXtentacion killed. And people supposedly had evidence! Wait… but this was just the guy everyone called soft but now people believe he’s capable of murdering bubbling rap stars.

It doesn’t make things better when he then drops a song called “Mob Ties” bragging about his “alleged” Houston street connections. It doesn’t stops there beloved, he gets on the 2019 song of the year, SICKO MODE and had everybody singing about driving down Ye’s block and shooting it up lmao! Oh you thought it was over??? No!! During the 2020 quarantine he dropped a viral tiktok inspired hit “Toosie Slide”. Everyone’s dancing but he spends the whole song basically talking about murdering someone and no one batted a eye! lmao.

So how did perception change from softest guy in the universe to 6God Badmon??! It’s quite simple actually,

I. CONSISTENCY

Image via HollywoodLife

Often first impressions are last impressions, meaning what someone first meet you as that’s how you are always perceived at them. If you was the square dude that wasn’t known for having money or being flashy but years later you turn into a flashy street guy, no one’s gonna think hey that’s “flashy street guy”. They’re going to think why is “square basic dude” trying to be “flashy street guy”.

The only way we’ll believe “flashy street guy” is who he is, is if he consistently shows us that. We gotta see you flashing more than a year or two, and its gotta be gradual, you just can’t pop up on the gram with a stick in your hand when you just had a Charles Darwin book in your hand. Boy go sit down!!

Drizzy didn’t just start popping up outta nowhere with more aggressiveness in his raps it was build up. He let us know in 2013 on Pound Cake/Paris Morton 2 “Screw all that happy to be here ish yall want me on”. He was being bold saying yall gon respect, when his respect was tested for the first time on a huge level with Meek he responded accordingly. Another thing his image changed, he wasn’t scrawny Degrassi drake. He got muscles and a beard and looked like he was capable of physical damage. So the progressive tough talk was easier to digest.

This went longer than I intended, but all in all I wanted to make my point that someone perception of you can change over time. Various factors must come into play first. It even happened in my own life but that is a story for another day.

MY JOURNEY TO NO WAY HOME

MY JOURNEY TO NO WAY HOME

Yesterday, I finally saw the year’s most anticipated film, Spider-Man: No Way Home.  After foolishly browsing the internet while the swarms of spoilers were released into the atmosphere, I actively avoided spoilers and got the experience I longed for.

Man It turned out to be worth every ounce of excitement I put into this damn movie. I purposely saw it in a big theatre, wore some WLCM, and brought in my favorite snack to enjoy this cinematic masterpiece.

But how about we start this from the beginning?

So when No Way Home news first started we knew Doctor Strange would be involved and would kind of play a Tony Stark-esque role to Peter. Which Peter desperately needed another mentor figure in his life after the death of Mr.Stark. (Damn R.I.P. Tony we miss you my boy).

Anyways that’s all we had until that trailer dropped. Oh my lord that first trailer dropped and I lost my muffin top beloved. Besides the usual spider action, we saw classic Spiderman villains, Doc-Ock and at the end we saw one of the Green Goblin’s bombs!

Holy smokes! That trailer impacted me so much I had to make a song about No Way Home. I even drew myself in a spider suit for the single cover. At this point I’m all in Spiderman.

So the anticipation builds and builds. I start hearing talks that Tobey McGuire and Andrew Garfield may make an appearance in the film. However both parties denied their appearances and I was left with nothing but speculation.

Anyways another trailer drops and now I realized the Jamie Foxx’s character will be returning which give me more hope for Multiverse Madness!!(no pun intended).

Finally, its release week! This movie is going so damn crazy people tried to sale opening day tickets for 10K beloved, 10K! If I ever spend 10K on movie tickets please slap me with the biggest Thor Hammer you can find in the multiverse.

Head to the merchandise tab for more.

Knowing this is the biggest premiere of the year my main mission was to avoid the damn spoilers at any costs! I couldn’t stop using the internet for business purposes so I just tried to avoid certain pages, although I probably could’ve muted certain words but I didn’t feel doing that.

Me and my girlfriend seeing the movie!

So I made it my mind, I’m seeing No Way Home opening week. I wanted my haircut, I wanted to wear a WLCM hoodie that featured the webslinger, and I wanted to watch it in a packed theatre for reactions to special scenes.

Lord and behold I got exactly what I wanted. My barber hooked me up to the heavens, my WLCM hoodie was nicely pressed, and the theatre reacted gloriously! *SPOILER WARNING!!!*

Especially when Andrew and Tobey was revealed, I literally screamed “Oh Shiiiiiiiiiitttt”. Man it was so hype beloved. I left the theatre so satisfied. I wanted to make a whole soundtrack but I didn’t have the time. I’ll still probably make one more song inspired by the film though.

But there it is loved one, my journey to No Way Home was like a kid’s. Nothing but excitement that didn’t even leave me disappointed. Zendaya’s character said “Expect disappointment not to be disappointed.”However, expected the exact opposite and got exactly what I wanted!

THE PATH TO LAWYER IS DIFFERENT AND I’M LOVING IT.

THE PATH TO LAWYER IS DIFFERENT AND I’M LOVING IT.

Full Caption Available on Kim’s instagram

Recently I just saw a post that Kim Kardashian passed the baby bar exam in California. She explained how her process is different than the traditional route which would normally include 3 years of law school after first obtaining a bachelor’s degree.

Since Kim is a megastar with no college experience becoming a lawyer did not align with her current status.

Thankfully she wishes to practice in a state that allows an alternative route, which she explains how she has to take the “baby bar exam”, topics that typically involve first year law school subjects, then she has to take full blown California Bar Exam.

Which for those who don’t know the exam is known for its extreme difficulty. I mean make you want to pull your hair out type of hard!

Which makes Kim’s journey even more inspiring. We need people like Kim to become a lawyer. We need people like ME to become a lawyer. Why? Because me and Kim aren’t your typical law students.

Kim father may have been the famous Robert Kardashian but initially that did not predetermine her to be a lawyer.

Kim started out running with Paris Hilton, having the infamous tape, posing for KING magazine to becoming a billionaire icon.

When the average person think of lawyer you may think of a bland person with no swagger, they just go to court all day and defend criminals. Everyone assumes you’re a criminal lawyer when they find out you have a career in law.

You think “they” want this guy to become a lawyer? Hell no! lmao!

But I’m going to show the world I'‘ll be a top lawyer like no other, changing my community ,and inspiring billions!!!

Anyways, they don’t think of a person like me becoming a lawyer. They don’t think of a black man from E.7Mile Detroit who also draw, rap, write books,blogs/vlogs, basically everything artistic under the sun to do something as cut and dry as law.

But the law is complex and has many sides to its profession the same way a human being is typically not one dimensional.

Kim isn’t going to Harvard, becoming law review president, and landing summer associate positions.

No she is forging her own path through an organic passion for freeing the wrongly incarcerated.

Over the past few years she has lobbied for the freedom of several people, including Alice Marie Johnson who was granted clemency by President Trump. When Kim passes the California Bar Exam and become a licensed attorney I know it will inspire possibly millions of young ladies to become lawyers. Yes simply for the fact that Kim did it. Some people went to law school just because they saw legally blonde, influence is really that simple. See it Believe it.

When Kim becomes a licensed attorney she once again proves that the criticism and insults she had thrown her way do not define her in any shape or form. In fact, they refine her probably giving her more fuel and ammunition to prove to herself, the world, and even her father that the path she chose may not have been the one for everybody but it was definitely the right one for her!

Good Luck Kim.

LOWKEKE: THE SILENT BAG GETTER

LOWKEKE

November 9, 2021

A prominent figure in popular culture and a coveted artist in the black community, Keke Palmer deserves even more bundles of praise for her recent career moves. The other day I was scrolling on the gram and I saw that she had a series picked up by Amazon. I was like boy Keke stay getting to that bag.

I. INSTAKEKE.

But her getting to the bag is not necessarily the focal point of this article but its how she is getting to that bag. Starting with her Amazon series which is based on her Southern Bell archetype character that was just for funnies on instagram. Something that she was genuinely doing to entertain her audience but she was probably entertaining herself mostly the whole time. She continued to prove that even something that start out as “not a big deal” can turn into something bigger with enough consistency and I recalled seeing those southern belle insult videos enough to actually be convinced that this was something that she cared about. Not to mention the videos were actually funny.

II. INSEKEKE

What I’m really proud of Keke the most is her willing a role onto the hit HBO series INSECURE , that stars breakout mogul Issa Rae and the rising comedian, Yvonne Orji. Keke once again demonstrated the same genuineness that she showed with her instaseries. She genuinely was a fan of the show, joining the rest of us in negatively talking about Cambodia ( sorry I’ll never say her name right and you know Lawrence can do no wrong beloved. #LawrenceHive or pay Wesley Snipes’ backtaxes). Anyways, after trash talking Can Opener, she tweeted about her desire to actually be a character on the hit series. After shooting her shot, lord beholds Keke actually makes an appearance on the show! The irony is she plays Granola’s sister! The person she talked so bad about lol.

We can all take something from Keke. Its not a revolutionary lesson but just an old age adage. Nothing beats willing your desires into existence, it starts with being genuine, casting your faith out into the sea of opportunity, and being consistent! I’m ready to put these actions to work even now! I’m gonna say something crazy for the heck of it, I’ll have a cameo appearance in a MCU film! Let’s see what happens lol.

OUR LEGENDS AIN'T WORRIED

OUR LEGENDS AIN’T WORRIED

October 25, 2021

There is a saying that goes, “Youth is wasted on the young”. Luckily, for the legends that I’m discussing today, youth is a state of mind and nothing can shake a veteran that’s about putting in that work.

I. MELO SCORING OVER 20

This shouldn’t even be a big deal but here’s why it is. So many people counted out that boy Melo for no reason. Some tried to say it was his “attitude”, others said he was confused about his role, and others just flat out thought father time had finally caught up to the B-More legend. Well survey says that’s cap!

That boy Melo is proving his longevity just like his banana boat buddy King James. Even other stars across the league had to express their disbelief about the criticisms regarding Mr. Anthony. Melo has been proving himself to be a valuable asset to the Lakers franchise. Something he wasn’t able to fully show with Houston or OKC. He’s been on a steady trend upwards since his redemption via Portland and now even in Year 19 the sky’s the limit for the legend named Carmelo Anthony!

II. JADAKISS WINNING VERZUZ

Verzuz is a revolutionary platform started by legendary producers Swizz Beatz and Timbaland, that pits togethers the powerhouses of music in a battle of catalogs! This platform is important to the culture because it makes our legends relevant again by putting money in their pockets and exposing to new opportunities with the recent exposure provided by the battle. However, there is an undisputed Verzuz champion and it’s the guy from Yonkers that had a baldie at 19 for no reason and wears timbs w/ shorts. That’s right ladies and gentlemen, D-Block’s finest, Jadakiss!

Kiss proved that lyrical manslaughter is always respected no matter what. After besting Fab during his first Verzuz appearance, Kiss made another entrance into the Verzuz battlefield alongside his L-O-X brothers to battle the Culture Gods, the mighty Dipset, most known by its 3headed monster—Killa Cam, Capo, and the poster child for Bandanas, Juelz Santana!

People were instantly writing off Kiss and the LOX because the cultural dominance of Cam and the Diplomats resonated with the youth so hard, people didn’t see the LOX overcoming those anthems. But that night the Diplomats was looking like they lost all their immunity and was facing 25 to life. Kiss went so crazy he had the Dips in shambles off Clue tape freestyles! Jadakiss may not have had that youthful dominance that Dipset had but he learned kids across the world real good that night. Even kids was just dressing up as Jadakiss for hallowen this year! (probably at the direction of the parents but the point still stands). Jada stuck to his guns and when people tried to write him and them Yonkers boys off, he showed up like Melo breaking another scoring record! Truly remarkable!

MIGHTY MIGHTY D-BLOCK!

III. NASIR’S KINGLY RESURGENCE

Man out of the legends discussed during this article, I gotta be proud most of my guy Nasir! The Queensbridge hero truly showed up these couple years. After a critically slammed fully Kanye produced album, people once again questioned “Is it Over for Nas?” “Should I listen to Illmatic for the 9Billionth time?!”. I personally enjoyed the Kanye produced album NASIR, but whether I enjoyed that or not, Nas shut all critics mouths for good when he linked up with the underdog HIt-Boy. Hit-Boy and Nas seem like a random hookup but Hit-Boy been unconsciously prepped for this moment for a while.

Hit-Boy got to produce maybe the biggest stadium banger of all time, “N***** In Paris”. Besides all the Ye stuff he had the Drake banger “Trophies” under his belt. He maintained consistency blessing the streets with his collab Dom Kennedy tapes and scooped a grammy for producing the late great Nipsey Hussle’s “Racks in the Middle” single. Wait a minute and the boy got production credits on SICKO MODE!

All his previous successes showed that he was ready to give Nas the soundtrack to properly convey his thoughts without forcing him to stay in what Hit-Boy dropped. Those tracks I mentioned sound nothing like each other but they still banged in their own way. Which is what exactly what Nas needed. He’d never fail with lyrical content but Hit-Boy had the ability to keep Nas current.

With the first King’s Disease, Nas showed us he still had plenty to say and he could give us bangers while he said them too! Nas even got his first grammy off this album, he didn’t even get a grammy for what people considered the greatest hip hop album of all time, Illmatic. As if that wasn’t impressive enough, Nas delivers a sequel that is undoubtedly better than the first! His lyrics on point, the beat banging, and his songs has a new breath of life that doesn’t get tiresome.

Nas showed that he doesn’t have to play to the tune of today’s sound but he also showed he doesn’t have to boom bap us to death to stay true to himself. Even with songs like YKTV or SPICY, Nas don’t start rapping like Quavo or NBA Youngboy he stays himself while trusting Hit-Boy’s. production. This idea is expressed with the lyric, “imagine lil uzi on a primo beat, imagine n-a-s on a migos beat.” Which shows Nas isn’t afraid to experiment and he doesn’t have to lose himself while doing so, peace god!

THIS SONG TAUGHT US ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT LESSONS EVER

THIS SONG TAUGHT US ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT LESSONS EVER

June 5, 2021

Already an underrated producer/lyricist, west coast legend, DJ Quik provided us with one of the most important life lessons presented through hip hop. The classic “Jus Lyke Compton” from the 1992 release, “Way 2 Fonky”.

The opening verse, as Quik get ready to tell his foray w/ the city of Oakland.

The song goes on a three verse journey about how Compton isn’t the only place with gangstas. Quik describe his ventures into various cities, such as, “St. Louis”, “San Antonio”, and “Oakland.” With as fearsome and dangerous Compton was, Quik soon realized that these other places had a level of griminess to them that was as bad or even worse as his native city.

Quik learned a lesson everyone has to eventually learn that comes from rough backgrounds, its gangstas in every city and they will shake your world if you’re not moving correctly. That’s right, just because you have little knowledge of a place or you come from a place with a volatile reputation does not mean the next city is for play play. Majority of my readers should know I’m from Detroit, e.7 mile specifically, a place that is literally engulfed with street culture. It almost makes you think how could someone like me come from a place like that.

Anyways just because I come from a rough neighborhood, I did not go down to Pine Bluff(where I went to undergrad) thinking people was any softer. When we visited Houston often it didn’t make me want to underestimate the locals. Heck even in Lansing, for as much joking I probably did about Lansing, I still know thorough people are living in the capital and they’re about whatever.

Now in the conclusion of the song, Quik threw shots about “Denver” saying how “they wanna be like Compton” but that still doesn’t take away from the message. Like I said earlier about Lansing, you can talk crap about the next city till your lips turn blue but always keep in mind someone is ready to match your level of toughness every time. Its up to you to decide whether you want that smoke or not.

CHIC FIL A WILL SAVE US

CHIC FIL A WILL SAVE US

June 2, 2021

Let me start by saying that I am not a fast food person any longer. When I was younger of course I smashed all the classics but after more education I decided to cut that out my life. You know what I didn’t cut? That dang Chic Fil A beloved. Every time I go I get the same exact thing, I haven’t changed up yet, its kinda sad. Anyways I was waiting in line this day and I thought man if the world was ran like Chic FIl A we would have a damn near perfect society.

I. CUSTOMER SERVICE ON A HUNNID.

First, beloved you already know their customer service is like non-other. I never in my life seen everyone literally smile and look like they enjoy working their job. When they tell me “My Pleasure”, I really believe that have had the pleasure of getting me my meal. They have small talk, (even though I detest small talk) they ask about your day, they rarely get an order wrong ,and when they do it is immediately corrected with no attitude. Man if you paid people at McDonald’s $33 per hour + tips you couldn’t get them to act like a Chic Fil A employee. If those people don’t love their job, well, somebody get the Academy Awards on the line right now because all of them deserve Oscars! You never seen anything like it. People at fancy steakhouses don’t even treat you this good beloved.

II. ORGANIZATION RULES THE NATION.

Next, beloved Chic Fil A is so organized, at times I think this has to be a front for some supervillain conglomerate, it is too much of a well oiled machine. When the lines are long they have workers in abundance to move the line quicker. I love the system of paying before you even get to the window. When you arrive at the window its never a long wait for the food. Everyone uniforms always look clean, you actually see the managers in the trenches, taking out the garbage helping out with orders, and not just being a micromanaging dictator.

This is when I knew Chic Fil A was on a different level beloved…. I saw somebody outside watering the plants. Man that blew my mind, I said man Chic FIl A got these boys happily watering plants, that’s different. I couldn’t believe it. Once again, go to White Castle and see 1. if they even have plants and 2. is somebody going to happily water the plants. We know the answer to both those questions beloved.

So anyways I think we need everyone who run Chic Fil A to run our country. If they did we would have kinder, passionate people, who stayed focus on the common goal: serving their fellow countryman.

A REMINDER OF INEVITABLE CHANGE

A REMINDER OF INEVITABLE CHANGE

May 22, 2021

the-only-thing-constant-is-change-b9a00e5bd608dd8c15f3b0a171a31405.jpeg

Today I was leaving my apartment and drove down a street I usually drive down. As I went down the street I noticed that the traffic lights was disabled and were replaced with stop signs. It made think like wow I lived here long enough to see the traffic lights go out around here lol. Seeing that served as a reminder of inevitable change.

As the old adage goes “the only constant in life is change”. Your favorite store may eventually close down, your children grow up, your taste in coffee may start to vary, whatever it is something will change. Even if you stay in a singular place, you’ll eventually see that place change as well. I’ve been living at my current place since Jan 2019 and I’ve. saw a lot of changes. Even the traffic lights I mentioned earlier was eventually replaced and the street was even repaved. Which reinforced the fact even more that change is gonna come like Sam Cooke said it would.
