THE QUIET MVP:YG
THE QUIET MVP: YG
2018, as I mentioned before as been one hell of a year for music. But while everyone is looking at the biggest name in music , Bompton’s all star has been having a quiet MVP year.
YG never been short on features as you’ve heard him tear up tracks like “Gucci on My” and “Want Her”, this year seemed to unlock an even more consistent beast.
NIKE SWOOSH
YG sounds very fluid on the track with Memphis breakout star, Blocboy JB and its probably my favorite song from his mixtape.
PROUD
“Me and these hoes can’t get along (why?) cuz my mama ain’t no hoe”! Easily one of the best lines from that song. Not to mention he has his mother throwing up gang signs and rapping his verse, how fire is that?
SHE BAD
Man so simple but so got damn catchy. And it make you want every damn bag this young man is talking about. “Louis Bag (Aye), Gucci Bag (Aye), Prada (Bag).”
Basically beloved if you haven’t been paying attention to YG this year its never too late to start. His new album Stay Dangerous is coming soon.
LIMIT WHAT LIMIT WHO?
LIMIT WHAT LIMIT WHO
Today, I was blowing money fast and when I tried to make a significant purchase my card was declined. Even though there were sufficient funds in my account my card was being constantly declined most likely due to a spending limit. I then had to do a bunch of stuff to get around that spending limit and still ended up making the purchase I wanted to.
Which brings me to my point of how when limits are reached they can always be surpassed. Typically the body/mind has its sets limits and we're restricted to those limitations. But in situations where being bound cannot be tolerated we are forced to dig deeper in order to accomplish our set goal.
Comparative to the latest episode of Dragonball Super, Goku was forced on the ropes and it seemed he could not go on. However as he thought about how the whole universe is dependent on his victory, Goku dug deep to unlock his new technique that forced his own limits to be surpassed.
As the old saying goes when you wanna do something bad enough, you'll find a way to get it done. Limits much like rules are things that are meant to be broken, see how many you can break.

KEEP IT COMING: The Key to Making Content Last Longer
KEEP IT COMING: The Key to Making Content Last Longer
It's been almost two weeks since JAY:Z released his 13th studio album, 4:44. Still after it's initial release HOV continues to release videos one week after another that continues to explain the album in the form of video footnotes and music visuals. As I was watching the video, I realized what Jay was doing was like DLC (downloadable content).
DLC is a tactic mainly used by the video game industry to strengthen the shelf life of a game. Instead of putting all the story modes or characters in at the initial release , these companies instead offers new content for separate purchases several weeks after the game has been released. Often the release of the DLC would come just about when a user is finished with the game and the DLC would allow the gamer to play even further.
The lesson to be taken from here is that the consumer can become a reoccurring purchaser or engager when content is strategically stretched upon a period of time. This also gives the product layers and forces the user to spend more time with the content to understand and digest each level of depth that may lie within the product. An adjustment may not necessarily mean pumping out new content every two seconds the adjustment may simply be making the content last longer than usual.

A NAME WORTH INCONVENIENCE
A NAME WORTH INCONVENIENCE
Today JAY-Z releases his 13th studio album 4:44. Being the business man that is Shawn Carter, you could've guaranteed that this was going to be a TIDAL exclusive. I'm a longtime Spotify subscriber and I didn't think twice about activating a tidal subscription just for this JAY-Z album. Once I activated my new subscription it made me think of why do we go out of our way for certain people even when it inconveniences us and I thought of two reasons.
I. LOVE
Not only do I regard JAY-Z as the greatest rapper of all time, I look at him as a guide for pivotal moments in my life. After hearing the snippets I knew JAY-Z was going in a direction that was much needed in today's climate, he was on the route to deep wisdom and deliberate introspection. Our love for our family and friends makes us go the extra mile because of the role and title they hold in our lives. That love is enough to make us do just about anything.
II. TRUST
I'm such an avid listener of JAY-Z and I love all his albums. I even defended the album people call his weakest album (KINGDOM COME) as a stand out in his catalog. I knew anytime HOV announces a new album I would be in for a treat and more importantly he would meet my expectations! When we go out on a limb for someone more often than not we realize we would do the same. Also we believe that our expectation would be met in any scenario we go out of our way for.
Paying an extra 12.99 seems like a blimp on the radar for me because it is a chance to hear the greatest rapper express hisself in the most freest form. Going the extra mile for loved ones is second nature because that's what you do when they bear a name that's worth the inconvenience .

LAYERS
LAYERS
I was listening to the recent episode of OTHERtone [Hosted by Pharrell Williams & Scott Vener] when Pharrell gave someone advice on the vocals of their music. He told him he should stack the tracks so that he can get more depth and a bigger sound out of the vocals. Then I watched a video of legendary artist Hajime Sorayama, who is known for his meticulous detailing and all throughout the video he keeps putting layers and layers of different grays to give the picture more depth. Which brings me to my point, layers are what make simple things complex and interesting.
Imagine if a person just had one trait about them and nothing else…that would be an extremely dull/boring person. However learning what’s underneath a person and finding out multiple things about them is what makes them seem otherworldly and uncanny. A person without layers is like baking a cake and skipping out on key ingredients, it’s definitely isn’t going to be a cake you wanna eat.
Another example to consider, is the lyrics of JAY Z. JAY Z is known for his double(sometimes triple) entendres and saying things that you don’t understand until much later in life. When JAY adds those levels of depth and perspective to his music it makes you(the listener) gain a deeper understanding of him that makes him complex and interesting.
So that’s the power of layers, it’s always something new to discover it only depends on how deep you’re willing to go.
