PREMIUM DRAFT

PREMIUM DRAFT

In the creative process, there are many steps most of which involved scratching, revising, and deleting ideas. In creating the most iconic shoes in basketball history, designer, Tinker Hatfield is now transcending the design process by having his drafts of iconic shoes be released. How does such a thing happen?

The passage of time is key to making an item legendary/mythical. Once an item reach such status the natural mind is curious to how such an incredible feat came to be. If the creator is open to share then the curious mind will be exposed to all the twists and turns it took to end up where we are today.

Shoes like the Air Jordan III and Air Jordan XIII, are shoes associated with legendary moments in time. Therefore it is natural to want to see how the shoes are birthed. The original is already solidified so the legacy of shoe won’t be tainted when NIKE decided it would be cool to create Tinker’s original drafts of the shoe.

The original draft build upon the legacy of the shoe by allowing the consumer to appreciate the shoe from a different perspective and drives the consumer imagination to think “What if this was the shoe we first came in contact with, how much different would the sneaker world be”?

It will be interesting what other original drafts of classic shoes could be released but for now original drafts from the greatest sneaker designer of all time makes more than a hell of consolation prize.

THE QUIET MVP:YG

 THE QUIET MVP: YG

FullSizeRender.jpg

2018, as I mentioned before as been one hell of a year for music. But while everyone is looking at the biggest name in music , Bompton’s all star has been having a quiet MVP year.

YG never been short on features as you’ve heard him tear up tracks like “Gucci on My” and “Want Her”, this year seemed to unlock an even more consistent beast.

NIKE SWOOSH

YG sounds very fluid on the track with Memphis breakout star, Blocboy JB and its probably my favorite song from his mixtape.

PROUD

“Me and these hoes can’t get along (why?) cuz my mama ain’t no hoe”! Easily one of the best lines from that song. Not to mention he has his mother throwing up gang signs and rapping his verse, how fire is that?

SHE BAD

Man so simple but so got damn catchy. And it make you want every damn bag this young man is talking about. “Louis Bag (Aye), Gucci Bag (Aye), Prada (Bag).”

Basically beloved if you haven’t been paying attention to YG this year its never too late to start. His new album Stay Dangerous is coming soon.

HOW COLE HAS ME READY FOR HIS NEW ALBUM

HOW COLE HAS ME READY FOR HIS NEW ALBUM

2018, has been a spectacular year in music and it’s only getting better. Cardi delivered, Nicki is coming back strong, and Drizzy is readying a career defining album. Hell even Kendrick is out here winning Pulitzer Prizes like he’s Ernest Hemingway.

But this Roc Nation signee and Dreamville’s Commander-in-Chief, has his own trick up his sleeve. His new album “K.O.D.” is set to release 4/20 and it has the world on its toes, specifically me.

Here’s the 3 factors that has me ready for the latest Jermaine project.

I. ART DIRECTION

ART by Detroit-based ARTIST, SIXMAU  - https://www.instagram.com/sixmau

The cover for Cole’s latest project is eye catching to say the least. It features Cole wearing a crown with children beneath him indulging in various drugs.

After a closer look me and the homie determined there was more to this painting that met the eye.

The children beneath Cole seemed to be lined up in an order of gateway drugs to the harshest level of drugs and it looks like what seems to be a loop, that takes the viewer to the harshest level of drugs back to the point of death (the last image behind the child is a skull).

Realizing the underlying messages in the artwork for Cole’s album made me think, how deep does the album go? [how deep is the intro? Lol, throwback Cole reference]. If the album’s half as good as the art I won’t turn it off for a while.

notice how the kids are riding the drugs like it’s a rocket ship, essentially they’re getting “high”

II. MYSTIQUE

IMG_2819.JPG

Campaign for the album started with a series of shows stretching from New York to London exclaiming the public to arrive early and to leave their phones behind.

IMG_2820.JPG

Random Cole shows in such prominent places makes one think, “what exactly is Cole up to”? Well it turns out, J.Cole played the crowd his newest album in which he encouraged listeners to cherish hearing the album first rather than explaining its contents. That in which only makes anticipation for the album even greater, its like someone seeing Black Panther before you but not giving out any of its details yet.

The mystique also increases with the album’s meaning. We spent almost half the day (okay slight boost) trying to figure out what the hell does “K.O.D.” means. The meaning holds such importance because it would give us insight into what the album could possibly sound like, This could be compared to when people were trying to guess the acronym for Yeezy’s last album. At that time all we had was “T.L.O.P.” who would’ve known it would’ve stood for The Life of Pablo.

Mystery always work in one’s favor when used correctly and in Cole’s case it is working quite well.

III. REDEMPTION

Its time to be honest fellow hip hop fans I did not enjoy Jermaine’s last effort, 4 Your Eyez Only. I thought it was cool how in the end, he was speaking from his deceased friend’s perspective but at the end of the day, it was just something I could not connect with. I haven’t really been engulfed in J.Cole since The Come Up, Warm Up, Friday Night Lights days. Those were the times I felt his hunger in every bar and I really felt like his soul was seaping through the records. Forest Hills was a great album but even so I didn’t find myself repeating that album much either. My favorites were “January 28th” and “St. Tropez” everything else really didn’t compare but they weren’t bad songs.

Also, I was tired of seeing Cole have no features or outside production. I feel like he would greatly benefit from both being that he doesn’t collaborate as often as his peers.

Anyways the energy from this album is daring me to say this could easily be J.Cole’s best album to date. I believe he will not fail and he will deliver just like I knew he could.

THANKS TO ANOTHER PAGE: THE AVENUES OF PROMOTION

THANKS TO ANOTHER PAGE: THE AVENUES OF PROMOTION

Today I was watching insta-stories and I watched Skepta’s (skeppy what’s good) and seen that Novelist (UK mc/producer) dropped a new album.

I love Novelist and I follow him on Instagram but I had no idea he had a new project out. Which lead me to the thought of good thing information doesn’t only comes from one source.

Relying on one stream of information can lead to no information or possibly worse, misinformation. Some news may be simple as finally finding out one of your favorite artist has a new album or it could be something detrimental.

IMG_2742.PNG

Imagine not knowing an important date or an extreme loss occurred all because the source you followed dropped the ball on delivering the information.

Today’s mishap is also more reason to why Instagram should switch its algorithm back to chronological order but, that is an argument for another day.

Due to the overcrowding of social media I’m grateful that other pages can serve as sources of info so I can always be in the loop for things that matters to me. In fact, you should be grateful just as much.

SKIP THRU THAT LANE: THE INCREDIBLE BENEFIT OF STICKING TO WHAT YOU DO

SKIP THRU THAT LANE: THE INCREDIBLE BENEFIT OF STICKING TO WHAT YOU DO

FullSizeRender.jpg

A recent post of FILAYYYY on Instagram made me think to myself, “Wow this young man is really out here off doing these videos”.

The picture served as a quick reminder to me to always stick with what it is that you do.

Not trying to make an unauthorized biography on the kid but, here’s a brief background of what I know for those who don’t know.

IMG_1759.GIF

FILAYYYY is a basketball aficionado, who creates hilarious voiceovers for the most insane basketball highlights that occurs over the season.

Simply letting his love for the game guide him, allowed him to take his brand all over the world by consistently uploading videos of his hilarious takes on basketball.

What some may not know is, he even plays basketball himself and continues to develop his game.

You may not get into the industry of your choice by the time way you desired but if you truly have love for your craft you will find yourself in the game someway somehow.

People who thought they wanted to act, may get a shot at becoming production assistants and realize they love being behind the camera more.

Even if that isn’t the case that said person still gets into the industry of their dreams which is the overall goal anyways.

No matter what you may want to pursue there is always a point of entry as long as there is a lane to skip thru!

THE UNPRETTY JOB

THE UNPRETTY JOB

When it comes to the structure of power it is in the hearts of many people to be seen and recognized as the wielder of power. However power isn't solely built upon those who are in the spotlight, the foundation of power is analogous to a football team.'

When it comes to football the quarterback usually gets the most praise, followed by the receivers, running backs, free safeties etc. but what about the kickers and the offensive lineman?

IMG_0960.JPEG
IMG_0959.JPEG

Superbowls are won by field goals that the kickers provide and aged quarterbacks are privileged to prolong careers thanks to the protection provided by the offensive lineman but yet most children never aspire to be the people in these positions.

The previously mentioned positions may not be as appealing as the commercial athletes but they are just as important if not more than the positions that are sought after.

IMG_0962.JPEG

When it comes to achieving goals you may have to do things you may not get as much praise for but they are still essential. It is the competence of the unpretty job that makes the spotlight so pretty.

ASSUMPTION OF THE WORST FOR THE BEST

ASSUMPTION OF THE WORST FOR THE BEST

IMG_0955.JPG

Recently I was having a conversation with someone who appeared completely harmless, he was burley and over 6 feet but still he didn't strike any intimidation, he just appeared as a person with a cool vibe. During our conversation he mentioned that he always keep two guns with him and he proceeded to show me the location of the guns. Immediately I was like wow I didn't even suspect he had weapons on him, imagined if I would've gotten into a confrontation with him, I would've been in hot water.

With that discovery, I realized that it is best to assume to the worst for the best. That means assume that a person is capable of the most violent or wildest thing possible so that you may be prepared if such situation occur.

In my foolish state of mind I let appearances impair my judgement instead of keeping my guard up. But as I stated earlier there was absolutely no tension, he even offered me a job, ha!

This just serves as a friendly reminder to not judge books by their covers but keep your mind open to the content that lies within.

WHEN THE PRECEDENT SETS

WHEN THE PRECEDENT SETS

prec·e·dent

noun

ˈpresəd(ə)nt/

1.

an earlier event or action that is regarded as an example or guide to be considered in subsequent similar circumstances.

In the legal world, decisions in cases sets the precedent for law in our world. The recognition of precedents brought my attention to how precedents affects the fashion world.

Lately, PUMA has fought its way back into fashion relevance. PUMA has always been relevant but it wasn't a strong point in popular culture in recent years. This changed when Rihanna inked her deal and through her FENTYxPUMA line, she has turned PUMA into a powerhouse.

FullSizeRender.jpg
FullSizeRender.jpg

Her success set the precedent for others to ink lucrative and creative deals. People like The Weeknd and Big Sean ( who previously affiliated himself w/ Adidas) are now enjoying successful collaborations w/ PUMA

Once someone of a high caliber can make something lukewarm extremely hot others can easily benefit from the momentum set. The key lesson here is it doesn't matter how uncool or under-appreciated something is it only takes that one person to turn nothing from something and then the precedent is set.

DROP AN EP AND EAT

DROP AN EP AND EAT

One of the hardest working men in show biz, 2Chainz continues to come with undeniable fire. The release of his recent EP "THE PLAY DON'T CARES WHO MAKES IT" made me think of an undeniable strategy for people to use in their everyday life.

 https://tidal.com/album/84318593 - LISTEN ON TIDAL

When artists drop an EP it usually to build anticipation for an upcoming album. Once an EP releases the goal is that one of the songs pick up steam and build towards the momentum for the upcoming album release.

That exactly what happened to 2Chainz, with his "PROUD" record. That song is clearly the stand out and it definitely make you want to hear his upcoming album (Rap or Go To The League).

An ordinary person can drop their own EP by trying their hands at different occupations. If a person has a broad understanding of what they want to do but not an EXACT understanding of they want to do then it is best for them to try their hand at everything that interests them.

Once you try enough things eventually something sticks just like 2Chainz single , "PROUD".

It is ill-advised to not take action just because you may not have the momentum you want yet for your big move. Instead of dwelling on inaction it is best to drop an ep and EAT!

IT WILL BE STRIPPED AWAY

IT WILL BE STRIPPED AWAY

IMG_0944.JPG

In the phenomenal blockbuster, Black Panther, there are two scenes in which the powers of the Black Panther was stripped away from T'challa , however the significance of those scenes didn't hit me until I listened to a T.D. Jakes sermon the other day.

In his sermon he spoke about how our blessings is not in what we have (expensive bags, cars, and fancy tech, etc.) but it is within our character.

I realized that T'Challa had to be the Black Panther w/o being the BLACK PANTHER. Our possessions is not there to form us but to enhance what we already have. If we had none of the material things we cherished, who would we be?

Would our essence of being caring, charitable or even a cold-hearted son of a bitch change because our lack of material possessions or would our character shine through no matter what.

IMG_0943.JPG

Our blessings in life is like T'challa's throne, to prove that we are worthy of such a thing we must be stripped of possessions we hold dear to truly test our character.

Once we can prove we are something with nothing, it becomes nothing to have everything.
