MVP or Title?
The NBA season is in full swing and talks about who could win the MVP are not coming from LA or South Beach. New York Knicks small forward Carmelo Anthony is the highest candidate for the NBA’s Most Valuable Player Award.
After being Drafted in 2003 by the Denver Nuggets and becoming the second rookie next to David Robinson to lead a team to the playoffs their first year, Anthony’s game has evolved beyond measure.
Becoming a five time All Star, earning two conference titles and leading Denver to their first conference final since 1985, Anthony has lived up to the Hype. Despite being traded by the nuggets in 2010, Anthony is having one of his best seasons offensively averaging 27.9 PPG.
But there’s something missing, well two things. A Ring and a Title.
Something Power Forward Lebron James finally earned last year with the Miami Heat. Could Melo be next? Well in one category he’s getting closer.
Early season predictions have Anthony listed as most favorable to win the MVP but there is a long season ahead. With Kobe Bryant averaging, 29.5 PPG Kevin Durant at 27.1 PPG and Lebron James at 25.2, there is still stiff competition.
However, Anthony suffered a sprained ankle in the win against the Los Angeles Lakers which has had him sidelined for the past week. He would be a game time decision if he would give it a go against the Nets tonight.
“He’s moving around pretty good we’ll see” Head Coach Mike Woodson said in an interview earlier.
If he can bounce back and stay healthy for the remainder of the season there might be a MVP ceremony in Madison Square Garden soon.
Along his stellar play this season he has helped lead The Knicks to the best record in the East (18-6) and now posing a threat to the champion Miami Heat. With Felton, Kidd, Smith, and Chandler they have more than enough experience and depth to compete.
Not to mention Amar’e Stoudemire is still out with an injury, his return could be extremely potent for the Knicks going into the middle of the season. We will soon see if The Knicks can get it done regardless if Anthony get’s an MVP we’ll see if he finally gets what every NBA player forever dreams about….
An NBA title.
