February 4, 2014 Jaevonn Harris sartorialgrow: FRIDAY CHALLENGE 08/02/13: The winner. It’s a fun challenge and we had many entries, I’m very thankful for your participation. The pool is not closed yet, so run over there to vote. But, there’s no way that this victory would escape through RDiaz’s (the one pictured above) fingers. This challenge gave me some clues about “how to wear a hat without looking like a fool” that I’d like to share with you. (1) Your headwear must be proportional to your head. The crown; the brim; and, the band. All should be in proportion to your head. (2) Your headwear should be coherent with your outfit. As with any article of clothing, there’s a formality range for every headwear and your hat formality should be equivalent to your outfit. (3) Your hat should be right for the venue. RDiaz has demonstrated this perfectly. Not to diminish his outfit, which is beautiful, but the context will play a fundamental role on the “pulling the hat off”. About RDiaz’s outfit, his remarks were pretty precise: I guess it works because it’s a pretty safe combo. It’s not been deeply thought, really. Cream linen suit is a classic, paired with a fine striped shirt that looks pale blue from a distance, then a navy knit - can’t go wrong. Pretty much any handkerchief would have worked provided there was enough contrast with the jacket. Congratulations to RDiaz and I’m looking forward to the next challenge!
